Whaea Alice
Term 1 2013
4th February 2013
Kia Ora Koutou. Welcome back for Term 1, 2013. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and the New Year has started well for you all. I am looking forward to hearing the holiday stories from the children.
Outlined below is information about class routines and organisation for this term.
Te Reo Māori
Whaea Christine (Resource Teacher of Māori) joins us on Thursdays for Te Reo Māori extension and fun activities.
Library
We will visit the library on Monday afternoons. Children need to return their books each week if they want to choose new ones and must have a library bag to protect the books.
Assembly
School assembly is held at 9.10am on alternate Fridays (even weeks). Please join us and see what our students have been up to, we appreciate our parents support. Room 7 will not be holding an assembly this term.
Homework
A reading book will be sent home Monday to Thursday. It is important that the children have the opportunity to read to someone and to share their successes.
I have sent home a collection of Maths games, activities and websites. This is a fun way to practise basic facts and addition and subtraction strategies. I hope you will find the time to play some of these games with your family.
Homework will include spelling or recognising high frequency sightwords. Please spend five minutes each night practising these words with your child. There will be a spelling and sightword test every Friday.
If you would like more details about the class programme or have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress please feel free to come in and see me.
I have an open door policy and you are welcome to join us, please join us for karakia if you are in class during this time.
A reminder that we have staff meetings on Mondays and Junior Syndicate meetings on Tuesdays, I will be rushing off to these meetings after school and unable to meet with parents on these days.
